Workshops

We run a popular series of workshops each year; often these are a follow-up of an art demonstration. Subjects cover a wide spectrum of painting media and techniques.

Numbers of attendees may be limited, with a maximum and minimum requirement dependent on the nature of the workshop and the venue. If insufficient members apply for a workshop, non-members may attend.

Workshops are usually held in a venue in or near Bridport, e.g. Salwayash Village Hall, just outside Bridport.  On occasion, they may be held in a particular artist’s studio.

BAS members are offered priority booking at a discounted price.

The cost per workshop for 2025 is as follows:

Full day workshop: members £50.00, non-members £80.00.

Half day workshop: members £30.00, non-members £45.00.

Participants usually need to take their own art materials; they will be advised in advance by the organiser.

Tutor led sessions are often available at the Come & Paint meetings.  Go to Come & Paint>

Alex Boon – Introduction to Nature Journaling

Venue: TBA

In this one-day introduction to nature journaling, Alex will show you some fundamentals of nature journaling with fun prompts and exercises that are suitable for any artistic/naturalist/writing skill level.

This workshop is a follow on from his April demo and talk

“We will begin with a simple sketchbook and pencil with some time sketching outdoors (weather permitting). You may bring a sketchbook if you prefer though a small book and pencil will be provided for you to keep. After lunch [bring packed lunch], we will return to the studio to work the morning’s observations into a page (or more!) of paintings and writing. A pool of art materials will be available for you to use, though you are welcome to bring your own. Tuition will focus on the use of Derwent Inktense pencils and waterbrushes (provided for you to try).”

Claire Nuttall, Life Drawing in her Tower Studio

Claire Nuttall has led Life Drawing sessions in her studio in St Michaels Estate since 2021, as well as various one-off sessions in other locations.

Claire would like to offer the BAS a life drawing workshop, and a step-by-step guide to Life Drawing, with a range of different methods and material suggestions.

Suitable for everyone, from an absolute beginner, who would like to know how and where to start, and to gain confidence to be able to attend other life drawing classes, through to experienced life drawing artists who would like to use this session to try a few different methods and make use of the Life Drawing opportunity.

Claire always likes to create a friendly and informal atmosphere, where questions and exploring ideas are very welcome.
