Exhibitions
The Society has two established exhibitions each year, one in West Bay at Easter and the main Annual Summer Exhibition at a larger venue in or near Bridport. These are probably the highlight of our year when members get to showcase their artworks. All members are eligible to submit work. All works submitted are exhibited, assuming they meet the exhibition rules.
Members have the opportunity to display and sell their work. Folios (original artworks), prints (copies of original artworks) and greeting cards featuring their work may also be offered for sale in some circumstances.
Easter Exhibition – The Salt House, West Bay
Exhibition dates for 2024 – Friday 29 March – Monday 1 April. Open 10am – 5pm.
This exhibition was held for the first time over Easter 2008 and has continued to prove popular with both locals and tourists alike.
The public have the opportunity to select their favourite artwork and the piece with the most votes is awarded the Batten Prize for most popular picture.

BAS Annual Exhibition – Summer
From small beginnings in 1957 the exhibition has grown substantially and nowadays features a large number of artworks. A wide variety of media and techniques are on show.
Members and guests are invited to a special preview of this exhibition.

Awards – Summer Exhibition
Awards are presented for the best artworks in various categories. The winners are selected by a local artist or panel.
Keith Cast Cup – Best Landscape or Seascape in Oil
Holloway Cup – Best Watercolour
Al Watkin Cup – Best Acrylic
Mary Johnson Award – Best Pastel
Michael Chappell Award – Best Mixed Media
Kathleen Quick Award – Work in Any Other Medium
Greyhound Trophy – Best Seascape
Pat Bayliff Award – Animals
Groves Rosebowl – Flowers
Sally Roper Award – Portrait or Figurative Work
